RAYNHAM – Top Shelf Purple found the perfect way to punctuate their first game at the 2016 Senior Chowder Cup, rallying with a five-goal second half to lay a 6-2 decision on Competitive Edge in Junior A Division play Thursday at the Raynham IcePlex.
One offense did flourish in the end, but both defenses thrived at the start as goaltenders Lucas Soyka and Peter Negron kept their respective foe confounded throughout the first half. Both blinked just once in the game’s opening 25-minutes, and even that did not come until late, Spencer Silver netting the game’s first goal with just two minutes remaining before the intermission.
A goal by Kyle Miller evened it before the half and kick-started a Top Shelf offense that took off on a fresh sheet of ice. Miller’s was the first of five straight for Top Shelf as they opened a 5-1 advantage over Edge.
Joshua Hinderliter scored at 18:30 to stop the bleeding and make it 5-2, but there was no comeback to be had. Tyler Madden polished off the game’s scoring with the final of his game-high three points (2G, 1A), his score making it 6-2 at 22:30 of the second half.
Augie Burkhardt (1G, 2A) also ended the contest with three points for Top Shelf.
