CANTON – Rapid Hockey Development opened their Jr. A division schedule at the 2024 Chowder Cup with a win on Thursday afternoon. They defeated the Hockey Factory 5-2 at the Canton Ice House.
While Rapid had some breathing room in the end, the contest was tight in the first. The game’s opening half ended as it began with the two teams tied, each side scoring once in the period. Anthony Azzarello credited with the goal for Rapid Hockey, Zach Rich for Hockey Factory.
The Rapid Hockey offense came out with a vengeance in the second half, piling in four more goals as they ran away to victory. Goals from Colin Versace bookend a goal each from Ty Gwatkin and Sam Renaud as the victors rounded out their scoring.
Jared Smith was credited with Hockey Factory’s second half goal, setting the score at its 5-2 final.
Versace’s two lead all goal scorers in the contest. Teammate Mathieu Goldenberg totaled two assists to finish as the game’s only other multipoint scorer.
Goaltender Richie Popson was credited with the win in the Rapid Hockey net.
