FOXBORO – The 40th year of New England Pro Am Hockey’s annual Chowder Cup tournament opened play on Thursday morning. The first recorded victory of the historic tournament to go into the books was a 6-1 win favoring the Boston Jr. Whalers over FCA Hockey at the Foxboro Sports Center.
Boston wasted little time taking control of the contest, assuming a 4-1 lead through the game’s opening half. FCA got on the board with a Lear Voit goal, but goals from Ethan Butler, Hayden Kemps, Donovan Burke and Olan Norton gave the Whalers a comfortable advantage at the intermission.
Out of the break, the Whalers continued to distance themselves on the scoreboard. Additional goals came from Joey Crescimanni and Nathan Gutknecht, while James Meredith recovered from the early blemish and locked down the Boston goal net for the duration in closing out the 6-1 victory.
Kemps, Burke and Crescimanni each had an assist to go with their goal for a game-high two points.
