Quebec Prospects open 2018 Chowder Cup with win over Capital City.

FOXBORO – New England Pro-Am Hockey’s Senior Chowder Cup is underway. The first game listed on the tournament’s 2018 docket was a Thursday morning tilt at the Foxboro Sports Center that ended as a 5-2 victory in favor of Quebec Prospects over Capital City Prospects in College Open Division play.

They were unable to get on the board until late in the game’s first half, but once Quebec broke through, they controlled the score sheet the rest of the way. Goals from Jacob Bosse and Benjamin St. Onge at 17:48 and 20:40, respectively, netted Quebec a 2-0 lead by the half. St. Onge then extended it to 3-0 early in the second with a goal at 5:54.

As the second half approached its midpoint, the two sets of Prospects traded shots. Capital City cut into their deficit with their first of the game, a Max Bush score at 14:00. Quebec answered just over a minute later, reclaiming their three-goal advantage courtesy of a goal from forward Fizet Olivier.

Marco Haw had Capital City back within two on a goal at 15:56 of the second half that made it 4-2, but that was as close as any comeback bid came. As he had started it, Bosse closed out the game’s scoring, putting one in as time expired to solidify the 5-2 final.

St. Onge started his tournament off with a game-high four-point performance, credited with two goals and two assists, while Philippe Larue and Danick Rodrigue split the victorious goaltending duties for the Quebec Prospects.
