Freezers, IHC draw even in Canton.

CANTON – It was an even contest when the NE Freezers and IHC Hockey met in College Open play at the Canton Ice House on Friday morning. The two sides skating to a 4-4 tie at the 2022 Sr. Chowder Cup.

The two sides scored just 20 seconds apart just before the midpoint of the first half, but the second goal of the game by Nate Mellot late in the frame gave IHC a 2-1 lead they took into the intermission.

NE drew back to even on a Cameron Caponigro goal early in the second and the two sides went back-and-forth from there, each side with another pair of goals to bring the game to its 4-4 final.

Mellot (3G) completed his hattrick in the second half for a game-high three goals. Aaron Norkevickus (3A) assisted on each of Mellot’s three goals to finished tied with a game-high three points.

All four Freezers goals came from a different skater. Gar Rudnyai (2A) leading their offense with a pair of assists.
