Blackhawks explode in second for win

CANTON – As the opening day of play continued at the 2017 Senior Chowder Cup on Thursday, the Dallas Blackhawks debuted with a second half rally to get past the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack for a 5-2 win in College Open play at the Canton Ice House.

Hartford opened the game grabbing its first lead on a Nick Zibbideo goal at 7:15 of the first half. The score remained 1-0 in their favor until late in the frame when it was back to even, 1-1, on a Scott Joy goal at 20:18. It was a tie that did not last long, however, as the Wolfpack restored their lead before the break. A Joey Mazzochia goal coming at 22:56.

After being relatively quiet in the first, the Blackhawks offense exploded in the second half, doing so right from the drop of the puck. The game was tied 2-2 all of 39-seconds in, Joy back on the score sheet with another equalizer.

Joy getting his number written on the score sheet became a common theme in the second half as the scorekeeper had to do so three more times following the Dallas forwards second goal. Instead of goals, Joy switched to assists, setting up a pair of Robbie Langholff goals that gave the Blackhawks a 4-2 advantage, and then a Saunders Penn tally at 18:23 to set the score at its 5-2 final.

The five points for Joy (2G, 3A) led all scores in the contest, followed by three from Langholff (2G, 1A). Ethan Williams was credited with the win in net for Dallas.
