CANTON – It was an early start to the final day or preliminary play at the 2024 Chowder Cup for Team Virginia, but a successful one. They defeated BGP Selects 7-2 on Saturday morning at the Canton Ice House.
The opening faceoff came early and so did the Virginia offense. They struck out a 3-0, first half lead on goals from Kevin Rubinstein, Zach Morse and Liam Nilan, and shutout goaltending from Ryan Crosson.
Virginia’s lead grew to 5-0 on goals early in the second. BGP got on the board with a pair from Nico Neve that cut their deficit to 5-2, but they would threaten Virginia’s lead no further.
Georg Clavin and Hans van Benten were each credited with a goal down the stretch for Team Virginia in closing out the 7-2 victory.
