Second half explosion leaves Mole with 6-3 win.

CANTON – With some second half theatrics, Mole HC Premier earned their first win of the 2024 Chowder Cup on Friday afternoon. They defeated Boston Hockey Club 6-3 at the Canton Sportsplex.

The game was not without its offensive fireworks, but those did not come until late for either side. Just one goal apiece was scored in the game’s first half. Luke Marchant for Mole and Boston’s Seamus Carey had the halftime score at 1-1.

Out of the break, Brody Matthews scored twice for Mole in the opening minute of the second and had them looking in their rearview the rest of the way.

Four unanswered Mole scored – including a shorthanded goal by Adam Bloomfield – before Boston was able to stem the bleeding and get back to within range at 5-3 on goals by Logan Bettencourt and Edijs Freimanis.

They could get no closer, however, Jan Bach driving home the dagger to close out the 6-3 victory late in the second.

Marchant and Matthews each had two goals in the win, but it was teammate Nick Yashin who led the game in scoring, credited with three assists.

Goaltender Gunner Zosel earned his first win of the tournament.
