Saints route Nordiques in opener

FOXBORO – The Rhode Island Saints came in with authority on Friday morning at the Foxboro Sports Center. They opened their College Open Division slate at the 2015 Chowder Cup with a resounding 7-0 win over the New England Nordiques Futures.

It took some time for the offense to get going, but once Brian Greene potted the first of the game at 13:47, the Saints became hard to stop en route to a 3-0 lead through the opening half. Joe Sanchioni and Kyle Evangelista joined Greene as first half scorers.

Things only got better for Rhode Island in the second half as Sanchioni dropped his second of the contest just 19-seconds in to up the advantage to 4-0. Greene also scored his second of the game in the latter half, a goal that was sandwiched between tallies from Tyler Kearney and Daniel Allen, accounting for the remainder of the Rhode Island goals.

A quintet of Saints recorded a pair of points in the win. Greene and Sanchioni leading the way with a pair of goals each, while Evangelista and Kearney ended with a goal and an assist apiece. Jacob Glod had a game-high two assists.
