WALPOLE – The opening round of play at New England Pro Am Hockey’s 2017 Sr. Chowder Cup came to a close on Saturday evening. Last on the docket before moving to Sunday’s playoff round was a College Open Division matchup between Roc City Elite 1999 and the Eels at Rodman Arena.
A contest that ended with Roc City claiming the final two points of the preliminaries following a 5-1 victory.
The Eels did not have much of an answer for their foe at the start, Andrew Harley putting Roc City up 1-0 just 4:55 after the game’s opening face-off. Twice more they got on the board in the opening 25 minutes, getting goals from Zachary Matyasik at 17:01 and Riley Fitzgerald at 23:26 to close out the first half with a 3-0 advantage.
That lead was eventually cut into as the Eels nabbed the first goal of the second half to make it 3-1 – a Cade Swygert score at 14:54 – but there was no comeback to be had in this contest. Determined to finish the tournament’s opening round a perfect 3-0-0, Roc City pumped in two more to leave their opponent behind and polish off the 5-1 victory.
Harley (2G), Matyasik (2) and Fitzgerald (1G, 1A) all finished the contest with multiple points, while Conner Pulli and Tyler Fitzgerald combined in net for the Roc City win.
