Canton, Mass. — A three-goal opening period proved to be the difference as Canton Terriers held off a late push from Michigan Legacy to earn a 3-2 victory on Thursday.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
Canton Terriers came out firing and established control early. Will Kennedy (#13) put his team on the board at the 6:00 mark with assists from Jake Parker (#5) and Ryan Tayage (#3). Three minutes later, Frank Long (#2) extended the lead to 2-0 after finishing a feed from Xavier Valcorba (#15).
Michigan Legacy answered at 11:00 when Drake Spring (#2) buried a chance created by Jackson Flanders (#10) to cut the margin in half. Canton, however, responded before the period ended, as Sam Zavratsky (#7) converted a setup from Chance Simmons (#6) to restore the two-goal advantage heading into intermission.
The game tightened in the second period after Nolan Williams (#14) found the back of the net at 9:57, bringing Michigan Legacy within one. Despite the late pressure, Canton Terriers closed out the remaining minutes without surrendering the equalizer, holding on for the 3-2 victory.
